Canon PowerShot G9 Digital Camera - Black (12.1MP, 6x Optical Zoom) 3.0" LCD

Canon PowerShot G9 Digital Camera - Black (12.1MP, 6x Optical Zoom) 3.0\
Electronics
Canon
Product Description:
The PowerShot G9 is taking over from the legendary PowerShot G7. This superb camera has improved performances and the best Canon technology for even better quality pictures. For example, it has a high-capacity sensor with 12 million effective pixels and a powerful 6x optical zoom. You can take large format shots with the G9 yet still capture the tiniest details in incredible colour, thanks to DIGIC III processing. You don't need to worry about camera shake when you're framing a shot because the G9 has an optical image stabilisation system that compensates for movement and eliminates blur; along with 1600 ISO sensitivity, this system means your pictures turn out sharp and rich in colour, even in low-lighting conditions. The G9 is easy to use, and its design is based on the user-friendliness of traditional cameras. You can adjust the ISO sensitivity settings on this camera, and the LCD screen has been enlarged to 3", allowing you to monitor all your shots before and after taking them. It even has a traditional optical viewfinder. With all this, you'll want to take the PowerShot G9 with you everywhere you go!

This is a superb camera
I finally decided it was time to upgrade my old faithful 4 mega-pixel Minolta and took some time in choosing its replacement. Buying this camera is one of the best decisions I've ever made.

It is the ideal camera for those people who want considerably more than a point-and-shoot camera but occasionally want to do just that. Its various preset modes are excellent - in particular I've found the indoor and snow modes so good that there really isn't a need to manually set shutter speed, focus and so on. However if you like playing around with these or taking unusual shots, everything can be manually adjusted and better still, several user combinations can be stored and recalled when necessary. The picture clarity is excellent and the camera is instantly responsive.

I've only found two slight problems with the camera. Firstly it seems to struggle a little, unusually, in bright sunshine. It takes a fair bit of fiddling around to stop it taking shadows so dark that all detail is obscured. Secondly even in portrait mode, it seems to have fun red-eyeing everyone! However this can easily be corrected with the online editing mode.

A final thing worth mentioning - this is not a small or light camera. It will fit in a jacket pocket but not a trouser pocket. However if that isn't a problem for you, I can't recommend this camera highly enough at this price.

Had to send 2 back and then went for a refund
A ring around the lens fell off on the first day so I sent the camera back for a replacement. The replacement arrived promptly and even before a courier had collected the faulty one. I had the second G9 for 3 weeks, but then it developed a scraping noise when the lens was moving in and out. On closer examination, a plastic seal or skirt had come loose. I sent the camera back for a refund this time. Will get a well built DSLR instead. Had the first camera been OK - or even the second one - I'd have rated it 4 or 5 stars, but poor quality control on an expensive camera isn't what I was after.

This is a great camera
The Canon G9 is an amazing camera. I can't fault in any way. It's feel is solid and seems reassuringly well built. It's not a true "point and shoot" as you can have the same level of creative control as with a DSLR.
I have three Canon DSLR's and love them all but this is the camera that I find myself taking on daily excursions to just about anywhere. The controls are very "Canon" and so anyone who is familiar with Canon controls will get it almost without looking at the instructions.
to me, this camera fits neatly into a position in Canon's camera range. It is a clever addition to somebody like me who is an enthusiastic amateur photographer but does not always want to lug the DSLR around.
It is a good uprgrade from a true "point and shoot" and will quickly reward you just hours after it comes out of the box. It's movie capability is also great and with a 4gb card in there I reckon it makes a video camera a bit redundant, particularly if you have a laptop and cardreader handy so that you can wipe the card clean after every day's shooting.

I love mine and I am really pleased that I bought it.

Great evolved replacement for my od G2
Nice size but huge very bright screen. Very little shutter lag. Great battery life. Really snazzy with Canon's leather case. Buy one

Superb quality camera-recommended
Just bought this for my son but had to try it out. Superb build quality and lens with a good zoom range. The 3" LCD screen is bright and very clear. He wanted a camera to learn photography on and this has all the features including RAW, shutter and aperture priority. Bought a Crumpler "Pretty Boy" padded case which seems tough and the camera fits with no wasted space.

Perfect Starter
Just received this from Amazon, great for a first time DSLR owner like myself. Simple to use, great shots (and i'm no David Bailey!) and a real quality feel as you would expect from .

I have also just sent off for the £30 cashback offer on this , currently being offered through Nikons website - Bonus!! :)

Very impressed by the jump in quality from a compact to this one
Hi - First to set the scene, I am not a photograpy expert...far from it actually.
I wanted to buy a new because I found that my old Cannon was not giving me good quality anymore (may be I became more fussy).
I hesitated months...I mean it... probably around 8 months.
I initially thought I would buy a Cannon EOS but in the end, the Nikons felt better; I was also put off by a series of reports on fault on the cannon and poor inside lighting pictures.
I then hesitated on the DX40 but since I am a total amateur, It was a lot of money. I decide on the D40 because 2 people told me that 10M versus 6M pixels really makes little difference if you do not plan to print on large format (I print nothing pretty much).
I then made the jump and bought it just before going on vacation to the US and the result is around 300 pictures - all prefect, impressive colors etc... The machine is easy to get started with (menus are simple etc...) and it just works. It is also very quick to take a picture so when the tourists around you are moving and are about to go in the frame, you manage to avoid them because the is quick.
Don't forget to buy some memory (I went for 4Gb at around 19GBP): perfect too.
So bottom line, if you can afford it and you want a nice just because that what you want or for whatever other reasons...no hesitation.

Great Starter DSLR
I asked lots of friends who are much better than I and they all suggested this as a starter for someone who wants to explore photography as a hobby! It's a great for point and shoot and very easy to understand. the menu can be as easy to understand or adapted to add all the extra's which i don't yet understand. The handbook was helpful. The editing suite that comes with it is also very simple and basic, so great for someone learning. I would highly recommend it in an age where there are som many 's available. yes, it only has 6mp but that hasn't changed the photo's that I have taken and the quality when they are blown up! Also, as I read somewhere, the composition of a photo is nothing if the focus isn't spot on, so if you know someone wanting to start then this is easy to use and understand and I love it! I have also uploaded some of the photo's I took on the - so you can see how bad I am and how great the is!
Well worth the money!

You dont need glasses to use this top bit of kit
Before admitting the need for laser eye treatment and having got great results from a compact 500 when I could see without blurr I saw the cashback deal for and thought I might be able to use a new without having to find my glasses before thinking of taking a picture. Age was the factor in the need for change but for the long-sighted in denial this was the answer for me. What a result - something easy to use, readable, substantial in the hand and producing ace photos! Put that with the cashback, the next day delivery and a huge discount via Amazon and before you know it taking pictures is better than it was 10 years ago.

Great Value
After playing with the D40 and a 400D in a high street shop.

I found that the 400D couldn't take a portrait picture of a balloon in the shop, whereas the D40 had no issues. I found that the D40 was more suited to a beginner. (which is me)

The D40 is more suited to people with smaller hands due to the body dimensions and you can only fit a small selection of lens's to the (ie ones with the AF servo built into the lens) I'd recommend going into a high street shop to have a play, look at the prices and laugh. Then goto amazon as the prices are considerably less

Other than these items, the battery life is great and you can still take upto 1 - 2 fps with the flash going!

Overall this is fantastic value compared to the 400D

(Almost) Faultless
Bought this a year ago. The only niggle that I have is the lack of a battery meter. It is the best 'point and shoot' that I have used/owned. It is small and easy to use.

"unidentified image"
It would be worth your while doing an internet search for "unidentified image error message" before buying. Every result I came up with applied to and their compatibility with SD cards. sadly, after I'd purchased.

great little
I bought this for my son (but I'm tempted to use it myself!).Great for pictures and also can take really good little videos....he enjoys shooting his own movies. We got a memory card and a case with it, but I only have praise for it and it really is very compact.Would find it hard to find a better for the price.

Don't hesitate .... BUY!
When this little gem arrived, my first impression was how in the world do they make it so small.
Well great things come in small packages....

I had a first generation elph (2.1Mp), a gift at xmas 1999, it lasted for 8000 snaps, the flash finally said enough is enough (the still works albeit sans flash!) I dropped it in sand, it got wet but never let me down, well once the lens got stuck, a bit of a push got it working again.....

So if 's track record holds good, I am a happy customer indeed.

I didn't want to look at the box, just in case it said "made in China" eventually I saw on the bottom of the "made in Japan" phew! That's where it should be made by a Japanese company.

I was almost put off by the negative reviews saying it was "mainly cheap and plastic". Thankfully I wasn't, now it is reasonably priced. Cheap looking NOT it is a metal case similar to the old Elph. 1/2 the size and weight though.

Great photos... quick to respond, and as small as a cell phone!

PS as of today, April 27, I had to recharge the battery for the first time.... 276 (Hi res) photos, 10 short 'movies', all the shots are perfect on auto (just like the old 35mm A1)

Fantastic compact
Bought this fantastic a couple of weeks ago to replace and old . First impressions were good, great size, fits nicely into a pocket, looks good and takes SD cards which I already have.
Worked straight out of the box with minimum of setting up, just had to install the software on my PC and I was up and running.
The picture quality is very good with the basic, automatic settings, haven't had chance to play around with them manually.
The main thing is it a nice easy to use and very compact.
I would highly recommend buying this and also a case to protect your new purchase.

price now very good for one of market leading makes so would recommend to anyone looking for good basic camera

Fantastic
What can i say, Got one in black, Look's and feel's so good you allmost want to put it on display, Look's better than the FX33 due to some better design features, Silver strip on front, joystick etc, And the 3in screen is just a pleasure, Very happy with it

Point & Shoot - but do you really need the 3" screen?
I love photography, and I love to have control over the image-taking process. However, control over a compact digital camera is a rather fruitless affair because there is so much depth of field to the images. So, given the creative limitations that you naturally have with compacts, what should you be looking for? Well, sharp images, good colour, ease-of-use, compactness, good build quality and a nice field of view range.

The stand-out part of this camera is probably the Leica lens. 28-100 is the perfect range. A nice wide angle for indoor and landscape shots up to a very useable telephoto end. Range aside, the lens also has a very good Image Stablisation feature (far better in the lens than on the sensor!). The lens is superb, giving lovely sharpness and colour as well as perfectly reasonable light-gathering ability in low-light conditions. That, coupled with the Image Stabilisation means that the camera is very useful in parties and other low-lit situations - with or without the flash. Speaking of the flash, it does a nice job without washing out all features. No more eyeballs and nostril pics.

Also nice are the three aspects - traditional photoframe and two "widescreen" modes -- very nice for playback on TVs/monitors and impactful panaromas.

The Panasonic doesn't offer you much by way of control, but it does offer PIC modes. These help, but I found that the full-auto iA mode is very good at working out what you're trying to achieve - especially when you enable the face detection mode. The Image Stabilisation works very well and the high ISO noise, although not as well resolved as say the Fuji F31 or Canon models, is not as bad as previous Panasonics ("Venus as a noise" as Bjork once said -- but the Venus III engine is certainly better than previous incarnations). The noise is certainly there at ISO 400, but no more than if you used ISO 400 film. On a 6x4 print, the noise would be more than acceptable. Even upto ISO1250, the noise is perfectly acceptable - especially at sensible print sizes. An ISO1250 shot might not be the best option for a 12x10 print, but then no compact would really give you that without some PC-work (and probably turning to black and white). For real world situations, I'm not put off by the noise.

Despite all these good points, I would recommend the DMC FX33 model over this model (the DMC FX55); they are identical other than a 0.5" larger viewing screen on the 55. The price difference is, I think, too much for very little extra benefit. The larger screen may help if your eyesight is weak, but otherwise, there is nothing between the functionality of the 33 and the 55.

I bought the Panasonic DMC FX33 camera for my parents who wanted a simple to use P&S camera. The 33 camera ticks all the boxes and provides very good images. The included software is more than adequate and also pretty easy to use.

If your photographic needs are to have a neat, stylish camera which takes excellent shots without any user-intervention, the DMC FX33/55 is for you. If you want full creative control, I would say that you won't really get it without going for a DSLR. Depth of field control on a compact with a small sensor is not possible - fine if you want lots of DoF, but not so for shallow DoF. So, buy the camera in the knowledge that it has loads of good points, one so-so point in the noise.

If it's a compact you want, certainly put this on your shortlist and try it out against the competition, but be sure to compare it to its equally good and cheaper stablemate, the DMC FX33!

Panasonic Lumix FX55EB
Was very pleased that delivered on time and received email from Purely Gadgets letting me know that item had been despatched and when delivery was to be rougly before 1pm the next day. Sure enough was delivered - and in time for Christmas.

Camera is very good has a built in memory but you do need a SDHC Memory card - well thats what it says in the instructions.

46" Widescreen 1080P Full HD LCD TV
I've just purchased one of these TVs'. Once connected up to my SKY HD box viewing any of the HD channels the picture quality is awesome. I also have a DSM 330 HD media streamer, once again the picture is awesome in HD mode a full 1080P. Black is black etc with no ghosting. Another good feature is the ability to name your HDMI (3 of) and scart inputs (2 of). HDMI 1 = DVD HDMI 2 = satellite etc. lots of features come with this TV as standard and its easy to set-up. Sounds is also good although I don't use the internal sound as I use and external amp.

The only minor criticism of the TV I could possibly make is because of the high gloss surface you get quite a lot of reflection from the surround fascia and the screen itself.

That said however I've still given the TV a 5 out of 5 because the criticism is surpassed by the picture quality and additional features.

Great value and high quality for a 46"
I originally searched for a 40" screen but found that this 46" model on Amazon was £300 cheaper compared to the high street stores. I had heard much negative criticism about the HDNL delivery service but sure enough Amazons estimated delivery date was spot on (it took 3 working days).

Not many negative points to raise, the dust does show quickly on the black gloss veneer but a regular wipe will of course solve this. To get the best out of this TV then a HD subscription is needed. I viewed the intergrated Freeview for the first 3 days and was quite happy with the quality of picture. Since then i have had Sky Plus installed and the picture has improved again. I can only imagine how crisp a HD picture would look.

I also started off with a Philips DVD recorder connected via scart, again i was quite happy with the picture quality for DVD's. I then purchased a Philips upscalling DVD player and a HDMI lead. Being honest there isnt much improvement in viewing, this may be something to do with the TV being 1080p and the DVD player upscalling to 1080i.

The 20 degree swivel has come in very useful, espeically when needing access to the cables. The 15000:1 contrast really makes a difference, the blacks are so black its hard to tell its a TV picture.

By chance i also managed to link up my Apple iBook so now a 12" screen is being displayed on a 46" - this gives things like internet browsing a whole new dimension.

All in all i am very happy with this Samsung product, the addition of Sky + had a big part to play but the TV itself has many plus points. Sports and movies make brilliant viewing.

Fantastic HD Quality
Great TV

Plus points:

Picture quality is stunning in HD and on the decent quality channels such as BBC etc.
Thoroughly recommend a PS3 with this so you can watch Blu Ray and get the best out of it as it is awesome. Planet Earth on Blu Ray on this TV is something else, truely stunning.
Design is as always with Samsung, you either love it or hate it with the glass black finish. Personally, I have always been a huge Sony fan but this design beats theirs hands down.

Negatives:

Sound is very weak when purely out of the TV but I have a Sony DAV surround sound system and they work perfectly so it doesn't bother me, but it is a typical problem of LCD/plasma tvs.
The remote control is very slow to move between the different inputs, such as Scart, HDMI1, HDMI2 etc. Tiny niggle but it does frustrate.

Overall, delighted with the TV and would recommend to friends and family alike.

Excellent HDTV Choice
Well, I bought this television on Saturday and I must say how impressed I am with its overall high standard. A Smart, black and shiney veneer of quality perfectly compliments the crisp 1080p full high definition veiewing experience.

My playstation 3 connected with a good quality monster hdmi cable looks amazing. Especially with the complimentary Blue Ray Casino Royale DVD. Bog Standard 480p Sky tv looks as good as its going to get on a 46inch LCD. No shadowing, motion blurr or dead pixels so far.

I can honestly say, if you are Uming and Areing over buying a television (as i did) you wont be disapointed with this one.

+ Points

Stylish, Quality look.
Big 1080p Full High definition Screen
3 HDMI Slots
Future Proof Resolution and connectivity.
Comes with a screen clean cloth

- Points

The screen gives off some heat if its in a small room. But saves on electricity due to lower gas bills.
The Black finish gets slightly dusty after a week or two.

if you've got £1300 to spend. I would recommend it.

Good choice for HD
I bought this following reviews of some of the smaller models, but as my wall was big enough I opted for the 46" - and we were not disappointed.
SKY
At first sky appeared very bright and the colours unbalanced. Looking on some AV forums and 10 mins playing around in the menu and this was all sorted.
Sky HD is arriving in a few days and I can't wait!
DVD
An upscaling DVD came with my package - 1080i upscaling looks fantastic. HDMI hook up delivers HQ picture, but I send the audi feed to an amp via component. The first thing I did was to turn off the audio amp on the TV!
X BOX 360
I conected via composite 1080p. WOW. Nuff said.

Would have been 5*, but for the speakers and the fiddling in the menus to get the perfect picture. Worth it though.

Wall Mount.
Went to ARGOS and bought a generic wall mount for 40"+ TVs for £70(ish) and it works a treat. - Tilting the TV down a few degrees.

Looks:
Her indoors says it looks shiny!...and pretty!

Excellent TV
I've been wanting an for years and finally took the plunge after coming across this TV on Amazon. I bought this TV about a month ago after having a 26" CRT TV for a few years. Delivery was super quick, only took two days. I was surprised just how big the TV is when I was unpacking it. It looks great. It has countless ports at the back and at the side. I haven't got any high-def equipment yet but I will probably get a PS3 at some point. I do have a Nintendo Wii and I recommend buying a Component Cable for it as the Wii didn't look so good when you're using Scart/Composite. As soon as I bought the cable, the picture looked so much sharper.

As soon as you switch the TV on, it'll find all the channels for you automatically and setup the Freeview channels. Only complaint I have is standard-def reception doesn't look so good on a . Some of the freeview channels look blocky when you're sat close up. I've got used to it now and don't notice it so much. I understand though this is probably the case with every so it's not specific to this one.

Overall, this is one of the best purchases I've ever made. It's an excellent TV at an excellent price.

Why buy an Audi R8 when you can have a Porsche!!!
The quality of TV's like cars is such now that reliability and quality is rarely an issue. There are many great TV's out there and i was torn between , Toshiba and . have become one of the front runners with quality and even style and almost seems like a safe choice with regards to value for money. Toshiba although not a blatently obvious choice it is as good as other brands out there. However i chose this . The reason is quite simple. Think about the new Audi R8 (in TV language the ). Its beautifull, reliable and turns heads. However when you see a Porsce Carrera (the ), even a slightly older one you automtically think passion, class, quality with a hint of arrogance, and you know its not a one night stand but a long term relationship. My arrive 48 hours after order placement. To set-up took minutes. Spent 10 minutes optimising the settings for personal preference. Its a beautiful matt which is kind of nice with the amount of gloss out there and sits in the corner of my lounge knowing its the best brand out there without having to show off. Welcome to my Porsche ladies and gentlemen and i am sure it will sit there in my lounge in gentle arrogance for a long time coming.

Bravia - Plug-in & Play!!!
I debated the " vs " decision for some time prior to settling on this purchase, and with a budget of circa £450 wanted to ensure I'd get the best value for money. Both brands are worthy of any wall.

It ended up as a choice between a Viera TX32LMD70 (which I was initially considering a John Lewiss Purchase, as they include 5ysrs warranty) and the unit, but the Amazon cost saving finally swung the decision in the 's favour.

The TV arrived as promised. I hastely bolted the mounting bracket to the bedroon wall, plugged the TV power and Ariel in (after roughly throwing a £30 compatible Ariel into the loftspace and guessing the best transmission direction) and pressed the remote I/O button with anticipation, having disregarded the user manual as per a typical bloke.

After easily selecting the language and auto-tune function via the remote, the TV whizzed though the tuning procedure, getting 88 free-view channels almost immediately. The picture is stunning - thanks to the 8000:1 contrast ratio and on-screen controls are great and easy to adjust.

Sorry - bit of a long review but this unit really is very well worth choosing for anyone with a similar budget in mind.

Brilliant service, wonderful TV
I SCANNED THE WEB FOR A NEW TV.
I DECIDED TO MAKE A PURCHASE FROM AMAZON BECAUSE I FIND THE REVIEW SYSTEM IS EXCELLENT. I MADE THE PURCHASE ONE LUNCH TIME AND RECEIVED THE TV BY 10 O CLOCK THE FOLLOWING DAY...
A SATURDAY AS WELL.
MY SON, AGED 13, SPENT 10 MINUTES PLUGGING IN THE SET BEFORE IT WAS READY TO WATCH. UNPACKING THE TV TOOK LONGER.
THE PICTURE QUALITY IS EXCELLENT AND I HOPE FOR MANY ENJOYABLE HOURS WATCHING TV.
I CAN UNDERSTAND WHY FEWER PEOPLE ARE ACTUALLY VISITING SHOPS WHEN A FIRST CLASS SERVICE LIKE THIS IS AVAILABLE.

Easy as 1, 2, 3...
After reading the reviews for this TV, and getting the great price from Amazon, I knew this was the one for me! Delivery was within 3 days and was without problem. Within 20 minutes of unpacking and plugging in, I was watching a clear picture with excellent sound.
Would definately recommend to anyone who was unsure about purchasing this TV.

Quality as always
I'm not a expert, and wanted something small and light that was reasonably priced and easy to use, and always having been a fan opted for the W80. Picture quality is excellent, the macro function is exceptionally good, and the speed at which the intitally starts up and is ready to take is excellent, so you rarely miss a shot even when the is turned off. Nothing to fault really, it may not have as many shooting functions etc as some other , but I didn't buy a to take crazy warped shots or anything special, so it's highly recommended from me!

Amazing
My sister got this camera as a present from her boyfriend and has had no problem apart from the fact i scratched it a tiny weeny bit and she still can't get over it, aniwaii this camera is the best we've had so far and it's also the most quality. Whoeva sed that this camera was to be avoided is wrong becoz 1.If you think it's rubbish go buy it from the shop and don't depend ur lyf on online shopping. 2. It has the best quality and lighting. 3. Ur confused lol =]

Avoid
First time I've ever felt compelled to write a review on Amazon. This camera may look great but it simply takes terrible photos. The images are grainy and flat, very similar to my 5mp camera on my Sony Ericsson k850i. I upgraded from my p200 which I loved and the photos are 50x worse. Recommend you look at a Panasonic or Fuji camera which will give much better results.

Style over substance - avoid at all costs! Very poor image quality
This is by far the worst digital compact I have had the misfortune to use, avoid it at all costs if you want to be able to take good photos with a point-and-click digital compact!

I purchased this camera as a Christmas present for my girlfriend as it is small ("handbag friendly) and appears to possess some good features (image stabilisation, face detection etc) in addition to being 8.1MP.

To give Sony some credit, the camera does have a good solid feel and the LCD screen presented crisp images. However, it was only after my girlfriend uploaded the photos she had taken on Christmas day that I realised how poor the image quality actually is. All the pictures came out with a foggy haze over them. Each image also had a lot of "noise" and in low light conditions the pictures were appalling. Comparing the photos that had been taken by an Ixus 750 I realised how bad the images actually were. I use a 40D SLR as my main camera so know a bit about playing around with camera settings, and even when I changed the ISO and flash settings on this camera the pictures still came out far worse than the lower MP Ixus.

My suspicion is that to get the style (and price) of this camera right Sony have sacrificed the quality of the image sensors and compressors, leading to poor image reproduction. This is a real shame as it has the potential to be a nice little camera.

If you value the quality of your pictures look elsewhere (the Ixus range is great)

Super fast shutter
Picture quality on this type of camera doesn't vary much between equivalent modeld of different brands - you get what you pay for.

Shutter speed (or rather shutter lag) differs greatly and this camera is very quick - about .18 seconds for a single shot. Compare this with the IXUS models which vary from 0.38 to 0.45. It doesn't sound like much but it's often the difference between capturing what your trying to photograph and missing it.

Menu etc. is OK - not totally intuitive but not that hard. Switching from stills to video is a bit fiddly. Touch screen works fine, even with my fat fingers.

Only complaint is the lense is in the top left corner and it;s very easy to poke your finger across the lense - but with the large screen you'll notice it straight away.
Worth 5 stars just for being fast.

I lIked It
I have an earlier 5.1MP slim camera and got T70 as a replacement in September. A noticeable improvement was steadyshot, as blurred photos were always a problem with the earlier model. Another good feature is the auto speed of the camera and its ability to shoot in low light levels, without flash, that I wouldn't have considered with its predecessor. The bigger LCD is great, but I found it somewhat fiddly changing settings. All in all, I liked it and am very happy with it
