Outstanding!!!!
This camera is outstanding. This camera well excelled the Sony Cybershot range by miles!!!! The large screen, with its high resolution shows the photograhs which you have taken in the taken quality. You would not be disspointed. I got mine at Currys and i got a 2 GB memory card, a case and cover for 3 years for £200.

This camera is recommended 400%!!!

Excellent piece of kit!
Apart from having problems with delivery (camera went missing on a bfpo address), amazon refunded me and I bought the camera elsewhere due to lack of stock.
This camera has an instruction book that looks daunting however the camera is very easy to pick up and go. Photos are flawless and movie mode is good quality for a camera.
I also have a 2gb Kingston sd card from amazon which works perfectly so no complaints there.
The only complaint would be the software it seems very basic with no support for converting your movies to play on the camera, otherwise the camera is well up there with the +£200 cameras.
Highly recommended, buy one!

Memory Cards
I am really please with my Samsung i70 and have no problems using my 2GB Kingston SD card with it. i don't know if the previous reviewer had a faulty card or whether the camera doesn't take 4GB cards but it works fine with the 2GB version which gives me about 1000 images, enough for me!!! Great images, nice design and a great sceen. I would highly recommend.

Memory for this Camera
Be warned I bought a Kinston 4GB Memory and couldn't use it, and have wasted my money as I have had to buy a new memory card. No where do they tell you this but this camera will only take Toshiba, Panasonic or SanDisk Memory cards and only up to 2GB, otherwise the camera just doesn't turn on.

I haven't got to use my camera yet as it doesn't even come with a small Memory card when you buy it. I am waiting on my new memory card which hopefully should work.

The quality of the pics are fab. Macro from 1cm. Amazing. Face recon. Photo wise (2 pics in one). The only down side I do not have the codex to watch the movie (I did send an e-mail to Samsung. They don't care, no reply after 3 weeks.). You cannot watch your movie (downloaded or recorder on TV)???. My old Sony did it. MP3 is great. Movie Player is great, But you can only compress mpeg movies not AVI or IFO. Otherwise if you are an expert you will have to use at list 3 softwares to put a DVD to your camera. The quality is so good and the design so perfect. 2 year guaranty. Don't Hesitate to buy it if you are ready to read a thick instruction book to get the best of it. This camera has the WOW effect for a very very cheap price!!!

Hi, firstly, this camera is very good quality for the price its up for, its got fantastic picture quality and lots of different modes to choose from for the more experienced photographer. however, if your not that 'tech-savvy', this camera is also great for you because its got and auto-mode which automatically selects the best settings for the conditions you are in. it has face recognition and best off all the automatic red-eye eraser; as soon as take a photo it gets rid of the red-eye all by itself in about 2-3 seconds flat, no messing around on the computer afterwards needed, however if you like you can turn this off. the only reason this isnt 5 STARS is because when taking a photo, you have to look at the screen to see what you are capturing, whereas i would prefer to look through the lense myself on occassions, nothing really big then. overall, a great camera for a great price for all levels of photographer.

Excellent!!
This camera is one of the best I have ever used. The picture quality is amazing compared to our Canon 7mp unit. There are so many settings to play with but at the same time, it is uncomplicated. The video capture is also brilliant as well as the sound quality.

I have not tried to add any movies to it off of the PC yet but I have added some MP3s and the sound is bassy & clear.

The only down side I can think of is that it is a slightly awkward shape and difficult to find a case for!

Great Pocket Video Camera
The Ultra Series Flip Video is perfect for recording up to one hour worth of video. It is perfect for families who want to share videos. I found that the sound quality is ok. The zoom is adequate but not great. And the picture quality is good for its price. The better the lighting you have, the better the quality of the video taken. It even looks good when watched on a TV screen. No sense lugging around a camcorder when you can carry this very light and small video camera that fits in your shirt pocket.

Downloading the videos to a computer is simple and it keeps with some pre-loaded software, which makes it easy for you to edit, email, save, and make photos from the videos. The editing is very basic; it lets you trim some off the front and back of what you recorded. And it is set up to link right into You Tube. I was able to make a video just seconds after installing the batteries.

The Ultra Series Flip Video has the ability to be mounted on a tripod as well as an action mount that can both be bought separately. But the 1-hour of video is all it can hold, which is more than enough for me. It does not have the ability to have the memory upgraded.

Just to summarize this video camera is very light and easy to use. It is so easy to use that no instruction manual is necessary and I am not electronic savvy. It comes with all you need, including TV connector cable, carrying case, wrist strap and even the batteries. This is all you need to share video with your family at a low cost. (Amazon US US0)

Okay - Not Quite as Trendy as it Seems
I do like this solid state camcorder but it's neither exceptional value for money or versatile either. For kick off the quality of production is nothing exceltional, and by that I mean to compare with other similar priced products. To give some sort of idea what it is like, your mobile phone if it has the function for video would be similar if used on low res. That's not to say it's awful and clearly it's designed as an easy cheap youtube device, just don't expect too much. It's also big. Given that it's a solid state unit, it could be made a bit smaller, which would fit in with it's go anywhere utility advertising. Having said that, a large part of this is down to using standard AA batteries which is convenient. They seem to last a good long time compared to other products like this. The zoom is digital which does limit quality. The recording angle is a wee bit narrow as well, so don't expect any great indoor wide angle shots either. One thing that did bother me most of all is that there is no protective cover that closes over the clear plastic lens cover, meaning that any rough stuff, or grit in a pocket would cause a problem. There are many good points though. It's well made, comes with it's own flip out inbuilt USB A connection, so no extra wires, and I like the shape. Clean and simple. I guess in the end it would be exceptional value at 50 quid but at 100 it's perhaps a bit steep.

Anyone suggest a suitable case for this?

good camera but annoying to edit footage in Final Cut Pro!!!
I have just bought this camera a week ago and I am still having problem editing my footage. In fact i havent even seen my footage on my computer yet!

The files captured on to the SDHC card are .mts format which is not a friendly format in most editing softwares. I'm having problems importing my footage in to Final Cut Pro 6.0.3 which Apple claim supports the format and converts it to Apple ProRes 422 codec for editing using the log and transfer window, but i dont seem to be able to do it. And i have read reviews from alot of other people who are having the same problem!

Im sure that ill get it sorted eventually though. apart from that first impressions are great. its small and fits perfectly in your hand. the functions are fairly easy to use although it would be nicer if the manual options were easier to access. Im sure that the quality is brilliant in daylight but at night i think the footage will look abit grainy, but then i havent seen it on a proper screen yet.

Easy to use and brilliant picture quality
I'm not sure why this camera is a lot cheaper than the black version, but I bought it on the basis that:
1. I needed a replacement as my existing Video8 camera is broken
2. I wanted something which will be reliable and not too much trouble to take around.
3. I wanted something that was going to still be useful in a few years time, when high definition becomes the norm.
4. It was the cheapest High Definition SD media camera available.

This video camera was by far the cheapest at the time at £350, as all the rivals were around £500. Hence no real competition. My decision was around it being better to spend £350 on a high definition camera with SD rather than £250 on a non-high definition that used DVD or a hard disc. Having seen the picture quality, it is much better than a standard definition camera.

I find the video operation excellent. Even with the 4GB card provided, it shot a recent wedding event within the 25 minutes worth of storage and it was operated by people who had not used it before. The SD format is definitely the way to go. No moving parts. I bought an 8GB card, and seeing as the battery lasts for about an hour this is more than enough. The quality of the picture and the general audio is brilliant.

The microphone is quite sensitive, and filming stuff at a distance picks up local audio rather annoyingly. However, when filming on my previous camera I was always criticised for not being loud enough when providing some commentary as I was filming, which is overcome by this camera. There is a zoom mic feature that I have now activated, but yet to find out if it is better in that mode.

The operation is low light is disappointing. The problem is that it looks fine when filming, but doesn't come out very well in the recording. So you need to position yourself correctly with the light behind you for the best effects.

The fact that you can take pictures with it as well is a very useful feature, but the quality of the stills is poor (2Megapixels) and you still need a normal camera.

Because it's so small and light (although not unmanageably small like some other models) it fits in an old 35mm camera case along with my digital camera, and therefore ticks the `easy to carry around' box.

Everyone has found the basic operation easy. As with most things, finding out how to do anything but the basics requires a look through the manual. Although there is a 15day licence of an editing package, you need a dual-processor PC to run it on, hence no good if you haven't upgraded to a new PC in the last 12 months. I've found converting it to standard video for now and saving the AVCHD files for future use is a good tactic.

Good all-round package
I got this to replace a tape based camera mainly due to 2 things - it does proper wide-screen recording (in HD, a bonus) and using files on random access storage media the data can be copied digitally rather than the time-consuming 'capture' process needed for tape if you want to edit the footage.

The camera itself does pretty much what you'd expect - it's intuitive to use and small and light. The screen is nice and the menu system is also easy to navigate reasonably quickly; I'm glad to say they haven't filled it full of useless trickery that will never be used which often clutters the menus of this type of device.

The picture quality is not 'amazing' considering it's HD (I have a 720P TV) but still better than my old SD camera and when the light drops it does go quite grainy which I guess is to be expected. I have a powerful PC so the editing shouldn't be much of an issue but I will need to upgrade my Pinnacle software; another reviewer pointed out that there is limited support for the video format currently so do check you can edit AVCHD before buying (and remember to get an SDHC reader). AVCHD is useful for me as it can be played directly on my PS3 - I tried some files strait off the camera and the PS3 played them fine.

In my opinion there are be a few things that could be better: it's not a 'normal' USB device so it can't be used as a normal SDHC reader or accessed without the driver software installed, it also requires mains power while connected - it would have been better if it could have ran on USB power for card reader functions. It also buries the videos a few folders deep which is quite annoying. I've ordered an SDHC reader so hopefully I can avoid this step and just copy directly of the card. Windows Media can't play the files either, though CODECs are available I have fully investigated that yet; the Panasonic software allows you to play them back on a PC and convert them DVD compatible if you want to watch them on your TV.

All-in-all if you understand what the video format means to you or you don't bother editing the videos then this is a great little camera and really deserves it's 4 star rating. Great value.

good camera
This is my second review having withdrawn a somewhat negative 1st impressions one earlier. The quality of picture is good, even excellent and, although I haven't used it in very low light I have tested it in lowish mixed light conditions and it works well. Mine came with a 4gb SD card and I ordered an 8gb card which is necessary. The camera is simple to use and very light: I use a monopod with it to give it a bit more weight and stability as this could be a problem especially at longer focal lengths. It comes with HD Writer which allows you to store files on your hard drive - essential if you want to edit - and a sample copy of Pinnacle 11 which is pretty much rubbish. Sony Vegas Movie Studio 8, Platinum does a good job, but you need to transfer files via the camera to your Hard Disk for editing purposes. I found it almost impossible to save edits using the SD card and card reader, but others might find a way of doing this. One reviewer suggests you don't edit, but this is neccessary, to my mind, and important to the video process. It could be easier, but to be fair, all editing presents a problem until you work out how to use it properly and have a computer system capable of running the software. I would be happier if I could just plug it into editing applications I am familiar with, but it is a new system. The camera is handy, take anywhere without being an incumbrance, and easy to operate. It offers enough control, if you want to use it, to cope with a range of lighting conditions and produces sharp images from wide angle to 10x zoom. It comes with a remote so you can operate it without having to touch the controls and risk camera shake at the start and end of a recording. It is a good camera for family and holiday films and is capable of being used with good production in mind. It is not sophisticated, you can't plug in an additional mic or headphones, but the on board mic seems to work well with additional controls for zooming and wind. I like the convenience of not having to use tape and rolling back and forth to find bits of footage, so this is a definite plus. For its price it delivers good quality images that would cost very much more but for its simplicity and lean functionality. I like it.

not all good news
the card and battery cover is worthy of a 10p toy very poor - worse still mine was deliverd with a fault - strong horz lines across the pictures and total over exposure in daylight. Let see how Canon respond this, one is scrap.

(Almost) Faultless
Bought this camera a year ago. The only niggle that I have is the lack of a battery meter. It is the best 'point and shoot' digital camera that I have used/owned. It is small and easy to use.

"unidentified image"
It would be worth your while doing an internet search for "unidentified image error message" before buying. Every result I came up with applied to Canon and their compatibility with SD cards. sadly, after I'd purchased.

great little camera
I bought this camera for my son (but I'm tempted to use it myself!).Great for pictures and also can take really good little videos....he enjoys shooting his own movies.We got a memory card and a case with it, but I only have praise for it and it really is very compact.Would find it hard to find a better camera for the price.

Fantastic compact camera
Bought this fantastic camera a couple of weeks ago to replace and old Nikon. First impressions were good, great size, fits nicely into a pocket, looks good and takes SD cards which I already have.
Worked straight out of the box with minimum of setting up, just had to install the software on my PC and I was up and running.
The picture quality is very good with the basic, automatic settings, haven't had chance to play around with them manually.
The main thing is it a nice easy camera to use and very compact.
I would highly recommend buying this camera and also a case to protect your new purchase.
