Sony Vaio VGN-NR21J/S
I had just recieved my Sony Vaio VGN- NR 21J/S computer a few days ago and had problems not with the computer but the operating system as all of my software is windows XP compatible. I contacted Sony Vaio's support team so that I could re-install a Genuine copy of Windows XP Proffesional, and this cannot be done on any Sony Vaio acc ording to the Sony engineers.
Iwould rate a 10 out of 10 for the design of the computer and to be honest, I have rate 0 out 10 for the Home Vista operating system.
Great all round machine
Great all round machine, solid built, solid performance, decent looking and a great price for a Sony.
I saw someone comented regarding boot up time being slow, never had anys uch problem with mine although it does come with 2 months Norton anti virus, this is what slows it down, so just get a decent anti virus program, I use use Nod32 on mine and its boots up and runs fine.
Close but no cigar!
First the good points: This is a well made machine, clean & simple without the clutter of so many laptops.
Now the bad news: This machine is incredibly slow to boot and often hangs in the process. I think in fairness some of the issues might be down to Vista (Home Premium is best avoided!). However I've spent ages on the Vista forums resolving many Vista issues and the machine is still pretty rubbish. Sony are also hopeless, to the point that it's hardly worth registering the laptop with them. I spent an age deleting Sony software/clutter as well as the usual Norton rubbish.
I find the best thing to do with this machine is to leave it for about 10 minutes whilst booting (other than to enter a password) and not to expect it to be capable of anything until it has finally decided everything is loaded. Even then, it can be temperamental!
I bought this machine based on a brief experience with a friends Vaio, I was impressed with the quality and all seemed to work ok. Sadly my own experience of owning a Vaio is disappointing.
I've always had HP laptops in the past (apart from one VERY disappointing experience -never to be repeated- with Acer) and would suggest you look at the HP laptops rather than this one.
Excellent
Have researched various laptops although Sony was always my favorite. Decided on buying this one recently and was really impressed, excellent build quality, easy to use and great value, can not fault it at all. Would recommend it to anyone.
